Dear Friends,
Now that we have settled back in to the work/school routine,
it's time to re-examine your committment to your health. I
was so excited about school supply shopping that I bought a
notebook for myself and have been keeping track of my
exercise and nutrition habits. This has helped me to avoid the
bad snacks I might indulge in when over-worked or over-
tired, and to see what is missing from my diet. It has also
helped me keep a balanced workout routine - i.e. making
sure to schedule time for my own workouts in the midst of
training all of you!

Centered Turns One
Fireworks, A Parade and Hinjinx Ensue
If the first thing you thought was, "Will they be celebrating
with cake?" I can't blame you. I fantasized about banana
cake
with chocolate frosting at length until a more suitable idea
was
born...
To mark the occasion of our first anniversary, we
are
extending a special offer to YOU. From Saturday, October 21
to
Saturday, October 28, book a private Pilates session with me
and receive a complimentary 30 minute customized mini-
facial
from our lovely in-house skincare expert and bodywork
master,
Sophia Fonseca. Sophia specializes in thai yoga massage, Dr.
Haushka skin care and rhythmical bodywork. After a session
in her hands you will feel positively blissful!
Call us for an appointment while space lasts! And if
you want
to speak to Sophia directly, call 718.926.9003 or email her at
oceaniczen@gmail.com.

New Teachers at Centered
After narrowly escaping a major case of overwhelming-itis, I
am happy to welcome two amazing new teachers to the
Centered family.
Lina Putnam will be teaching both of the evening
classes on Tuesdays. In addition to her years of Pilates
experience (we trained together!) , she is also certified in the
Alexander Technique, which brings a unique perspective to
her
mat classes.
Sarah Silk will be teaching various evening and
possibly morning classes. Sarah comes from a dance/theatre
background and brings great energy to the classes she
teaches. Rumor has it she knows how to dance hip-hop,
which
makes me want to see her throw down and spin around on
the
floor. I'm thinking this might be some kind of initiation
requirement for her...
I encourage you to take a class with either or both
of
them to gain new insight into your Pilates workout.

Karrie Hosts A Book Group
Shock Waves Felt Throughout NY Metro Area
I've never been part of a book group, probably because I
never felt like I could commit. But after a heated discussion
with a friend over a book she had recently read, I realized
how much fun it could be to gather some pals a meet on a
monthly basis to discuss books that are relevant to us now.
So here it goes - an open call for anyone who wants to join
me in the comfort of our own little library here at Centered,
one evening per month, to read, talk, snack, etc.. Dying for
more info? Send me an email at info@thecentered.com and I
will share the details and organize the group. The first meeting
will be Monday, October 23rd at 7:30pm.

Tip of the Month
Just because big sweaters and bubble-shaped dresses are
everywhere this season doesn't mean you can let your
ladylike waist disappear. The modified Criss Cross works the
obliques and is a relatively painless way to maintain your
womanly shape!
- Lie down on your back with knees bent and feet and
knees together.
- Extend your arms in front of you, placing one hand on
top of the other. Engage your abdominal muscles and bring
your head up and roll your shoulders off the floor, reaching
your hands to the right side of your knees. Hold for 3 counts.
</
li>
- Without going back down to a reclined position, twist and
reach to the left side and hold for 3 counts. Repeat 5x each
side.
- Make sure your hips stay firmly planted on the ground
and that your chest is relaxed throughout the exercise. And if
you want to really challenge yourself, try holding the
position for 5 counts. You can also squeeze a ball or towel
between your legs for some extra inner thigh work.

Thanks to everyone who gave to our collection drive for
Room To Grow last month. They were very pleased with the
many boxes of great baby gear you so generously donated.
And most of all thanks for a great first year. I feel
very fortunate
to have
spent time with all who have come to the studio.
Sincerely,
Karrie
