Dear Friends:

Spring cleaning is taking much longer than I had anticipated. I can’t seem to find the time to battle dust bunnies and run to the Salvation Army with old clothes when I am tired from a long work day, should be taking my son to the park, or at the very least making sure there is food in the fridge for the coming week. Are there other options short of cloning myself? I know you feel my pain. So…

For all of you working moms – sign up for Working Around the Clock: Balancing Careers and Kids. On May 9th at 6:30pm we’re holding one of our fun discussion evenings to talk about how to do it all – or not – and keep yourself together. For more info go to our website at
www.thecentered.com.

Pain in the Neck:
Neck Pain can occur from sleeping in a bad position, from a sudden movement, or even from carrying your heavy bag on one side for too long. It’s important to be aware of how you carry yourself and to change any poor habits. And to relieve the pain and tension, here are some stretches I recommend:

1. Sitting up tall with your abs pulled in and shoulders relaxed, gently and slowly turn your head to one side and back to center. Then look to the other side, and back to center again. You can repeat this movement three times each side.
2. Looking straight ahead, bring your ear to you shoulder to stretch down the opposite side of your neck. Hold it for five counts, and then switch to the other side. Repeat two times each side. Remember to move slowly.
3. Neck rolls are also great to stretch out the kinks in your neck, but never let your head go back – just bring your ear to shoulder, then chin to chest, then ear to other shoulder, then up. Reverse and repeat two times each side.

And as always, don’t forget to breathe. Conscious breathing by itself can relieve tension.

Consumption:
Recently I have been struggling with my coffee intake. I went cold turkey, and then slowly allowed myself a brunch cappuccino, but then it started sneaking back into the work week. I was losing willpower - but I felt so good without it! To my rescue came Tavalon (www.tavalon.com), a new tea place on 14th between Fifth and University. It’s a tiny space, so be careful not to walk past it. They have great varieties of tea, good music, delicious treats (green tea cookies!), and very helpful people there to give you samples and assist you in buying a beverage that is exactly what you need.

Aural fixation:
I bet you are asking yourself, what should I be listening to this Spring? It’s not quite hot enough to throw open the windows and rock full on, but you need something a little peppy. Luxuriamusic.com – outré lounge and Latin jazz, breezy swinging instrumentals, groovy 60’s go-go….retro pop and surf music…you get the idea. The perfect soundtrack for your sophisticated lifestyle! Or if you are me, perfect for the above-mentioned Spring cleaning.

Gifts Galore!
Don’t forget! Encourage your loved ones to purchase you a special Centered Mother’s Day Gift – they can obtain a gift certificate for any amount or package. You deserve it! And if you are not a Mom – buy one for your Mom!

Love,

Karrie
