Hello Friends:
Unpredictable seems to be the theme of March so far. Freezing, warm, snow, rain, then 60 degrees. And to top it off – the two major upsets of the month: First, Crash wins best picture, then Chloe takes home the gold on Project Runway!
So I was thinking, exactly what can a girl have control over? Your eyebrows! Get a grip on those unruly brows by going to see my pal Susana Endo who will groom (without over-doing) you to perfection. You’ll look so good that people might wonder exactly what kind of sprucing up you had done. (www.sufacial.com).
At Your Desk: Almost everyone who comes in to Centered experiences lower back pain. When asked, most act as though it is not so bad, they live with it every day and do not consider it a real problem. But you shouldn’t have to live with pain! (I sound like a commercial, right?) Pilates is of course the easy answer to relieving back pain – it strengthens your abdominal muscles, lengthens your spine and increases your flexibility. And this exercise you can do on your own.
Abdominal bracing is a great way to strengthen your abs but it also allows you to gently open up the lower back.
| In a straight-backed chair sitting up tall, make sure that your feet are firmly planed on the floor while you back is completely attached to the back of the chair. If you are “height-challenged” (a shorty), you can rest your feet on some books or a box. Relax the shoulders and chest. Pull your lower abdominal muscles in so deeply that you can feel your back press against the back of the chair. Make sure you are not leaning back or pushing with your legs - that’s cheating! Hold this position for 10 counts, then gently release. Repeat 3 – 5 times. You can also try it standing up against a wall. |
Added bonus – once you have the hang of this, add a pelvic floor lift. Just think of it as multi-tasking – you are getting your Kegels over with at the same time.
Around the Room: We had a great time during our Motherhood: The Juggling Act discussion. On top of having some wine and a few good laughs, there were some interesting points and tips that came up. |

Don’t lose yourself in the chaos of your daily life. We are the rule-makers, the social coordinators, the chefs, the bosses, and the problem-solvers. But don’t forget that you were already a complete person pre-children and that you need to continue to nurture and grow that person. |

Take a walk. There is nothing easier (or cheaper) than taking a stroll around the neighborhood, getting some air and having a few moments to yourself. If you are really bold, you will leave your cell phone behind. |

You can only control so much – learn to let go of the things you know won’t make a difference tomorrow. |
Because we left with so much more to say, we are going continue this series on Tuesday, April 4th at 6:30pm. Diana will be talking about navigating, maintaining and growing your relationship with your husband post-children. Space is limited so please RSVP via email or phone by Friday, March 31st.
And we did confirm, for anyone who may not yet be enlightened, that men are in fact wired differently than we are.
In the Media: Are your push-ups just not up to snuff? Feeling a little on the wimpy side? Then check out this month’s issue of Real Simple and see my tips on perfecting your push-up performance!
On the Playlist: I am addicted to discovering new and interesting iTunes radio stations, and in my spare moments have found quite a few. Call me Granny, but last month I was into The 1920’s Radio Network (www.wbdhradio.com). This month – a crazy French station featuring mostly jazz – Radio Deliro (www.radiodeliro.net).
Roll on…
