Dear Friends,

Like most people, I end up in a holiday panic this time of year which wastes more energy and creates more wrinkles than I care to ponder. So my solution for staying sane this time around is baking. Yep - me, an apron, a spatula and a bunch of sugar is just the recipe for keeping me happy this December.

So many of you are dying to know: what does Karrie want for the holidays? I'm glad you asked. I would like to get more book donations for our library. So if you have any books on the topics of: parenting, motherhood, pregnancy, childbirth, nutrition, fitness, or just your favorite essays about being a babe in general, we will gladly accept your gift.

GIving & Receiving
Something Special For You

Since December is the traditional gift-giving time of year, we are offering a special gift for you. Refer a friend to Centered and you will receive a complimentary mat class. This works out well for you, of course, because all you have to do is chat up the place as you already do. Then when your friend checks in for her class, she says your name and bingo - you get an email from me stating how lucky you are. It is sort of like winning a very intense and sweat-inducing prize, or a gift that keeps on giving, if you will.

New Classes, New Schedule

In January we will be adding more group classes to the schedule. I am in the process of putting these in place, so if you have suggestions about classes or times you would like to see on the schedule, please drop me a line!

While we're talking about classes, I would like to recognize two new (ish) teachers at Centered.

Mildraide has been teaching Wednesday and Friday evening classes, and making it her mission to squelch any possible thoughts of having an "easy" class. No, Mildraide means business, but she does it with a smile.
Ulla has taken on the Monday mid-day classes and brings her dance and movement background, as well as her alluring Austrian accent, to her classes. A former dancer and dance teacher, she will guide you through her classes with great precision and fluidity. You will glide out of class gracefully!

You've heard me say it before - give your workout a little jolt and try out a different teacher. We're all quite different, and that's a good thing.

Karrie's Picks For Holiday Gifts

I am trying to be crafty this year, and make holiday gifts for those who will appreciate my special talents. But in a pinch, I like to have a few places where I can find unusual gems. Following are my picks for great gifts this year:

• curiosityshoppeonline.com - Because someone in your life needs a Mushroom Cachette or a Talking Painting.

• babylegs.net - There has to be a little girl on your list who needs to bust out some fashionable - and functional - leg warmers.

• mrpickles.com - Last year my nephew received a Roast Beef Plush Toy and he still loves me the most. (Look under "Cuddlers' on the site and scroll down to the meats. I'm totally serious.).

• Is cashmere ever boring? Stop by UNIQLO on Broadway (Prince/Spring) and get a bargain on a sensible sweater for your Pop.

• thinkgeek.com. That NASA-designed space age ant habitat is screaming out for a new home! And the Titanium Spork is the best stocking stuffer around.

Tip of the Month
Take a Moment to Stretch

What better way to give your bum a little extra lift than to work it while you are waiting in line to pay for your purchases? You will likely be waiting a while, so give these boosters a try:

• Standing up tall, tighten up your abs and squeeze your bottom. Hold for 10 counts and release. Repeat until you have paid for your purchases.

• Challenge your coordination a bit by doing the above but alternate squeezing your cheeks - first right, then left, etc. Hold each side for 5 seconds. The person in line behind you will just think you are really enjoying the holiday music!

Need more to get you in the holiday mood? My first advice would be to stay out of all retail stores where they play that endless loop of Christmas music. If that fails, go ice skating. If you are wimpy about the cold, you can always go the Chelsea Piers. But you really should go to Bryant Park (less touristy than Rock Center) or Wollman Rink. I mean, we are in New York City after all.

Ok, I'm off to decorate my pink tree...

Have a happy and safe holiday season.

As always, if you have any ideas or suggestions, we welcome your comments. See you soon...

Sincerely,

Karrie
